Restoration of the Old Paths

Jeremiah 6:16-17 (KJV) – 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. 17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

The word “old” in the Hebrew; it comes from a Hebrew word called “Owlam” which means “eternity,” “the beginning of creation,” or “eternity past.”

The word “path” or “paths” is used 65 times, and you can divide them into 3 dimensions.

The Tabernacle is divided into three parts:  the Outer Court, the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies.

The New Birth experience of the New Testament church is three dimensional for we must repent and believe, be baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost.

We are three-dimensional people.  We are made up of body, soul, and spirit.

The three paths that emerge are: the path of truth (doctrine or the word of God), the path of worship (devotion or praise unto the Lord), and the path of holiness (separation from the world and sins).

Four Prerequisites for finding Spiritual Rest

Stand in the Hebrew “Amad” means to continue or endure.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

See in the Hebrew “ra’ah” which means to approve of or have respect for.

Revelation 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and [that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Ask in the Hebrew “sha’al” lay to the charge of, put the burden of on another.  Ask and it shall he given.

Walk in the Hebrew means to having a cause to or have a purpose for.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.

Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge God;.

I Thessalonians 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Paths of Truth – Psalms 25:10 All the paths of the LORD [are] mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Psalms 119:105 {Nun.} Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

1),  God’s doctrine concerning himself is that he is sovereign and one.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, 0 Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I [am] the LORD that maketh all [things]; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

The Path of Worship – Job 38:4, 7 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Psalms 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.

The Path of Holiness – God started out making a separation between light and darkness.

The Bible talks about God’s path:

1.) Isaiah 2:3  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

2.) Micah 4:2  And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

3)Matthew 3:3  For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4) Psalms 27:11  Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. (This explains why we must know the paths of the Lord because the enemy is trying to destroy us.)

5.) Job 28:7 [There is] a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: [There is] a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:

6.) Isaiah 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it [shall be] for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err [therein]. No lion shall be there, nor [any] ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk [there]:

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all (men), and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Proverbs 2:9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; [yea], every good path.

Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Proverbs 8:20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
